Aronia Berry

It’s officially cold & flu season, and our home has been hit.
So we are resting. We are drinking Winter Seasonal tea, getting lots of other fluids, and taking Elderberry Syrup.
All of that is helping, but these things need to run their course (usually about 10 days).
In my studies (herbal classes, herbal conferences) this past year, I’ve heard a lot about Aronia Berries. I have some sitting in the apothecary, but I have never worked with them (or so I thought), because I hadn't studied that herb yet.
What I learned from Nathan Wright (Herbal Lodge), one of the speakers at the conference, is that Aronia Berries are also called Black Choke Cherries. Lightbulb moment: I grew up eating wild choke cherry jelly. I gathered buckets of berries and mom turned them into jelly. We enjoyed that jelly, and many other berry jams & jellies, all winter long. Very rarely did we get sick as kids.
So I decided to experiment. I made Aronia berry syrup, and I have an oxymel brewing.
I’m planning to work with this batch personally. But in the future you may see this item pop up at the Monroe Farmers Market.
Stay healthy!
For the love of Aronia Berries.
Chris
